You know, I work within and very masculine industry. Working in the financial industry can been seen as mainly a mans world. You know, banking, numbers, money, it’s all related to men. – I think that’s laughable.
It’s completely laughable, I mean come on. Girls are just as capable as any man. I’m currently developing. This involves me working my a** off and working long hard hours. Trying to impress the bosses and be the role model that everyone looks up too. I go home absolutely drained. Physically and mentally drained. I’ve even noticed myself coming home and feeling the need to grab for the wine again. This for me scares me. It’s the first sign to me that I’m going down that pit of darkness again. – However on the plus side, ive noticed it and trying to curve the need.
I’ve recently come to the conclusion that most people don’t like females in the line of authority. I mean, for example, I’m in a position at work that is customer facing. I am needed to take over complaint/difficult calls from my consultants. I know for me, when a young, girly voice comes on the phone stating that they are a senior supervisor on the phone some people (mainly men) don’t seem to warm up to it. Now don’t get me wrong there is some are absolutely fine, lovely people and I can managed to sweet talk them – in my girly way however sometimes you get the older 40-60 year old men that clearly don’t like talking to a girl. – IM NOT GENERALISING MEN! I’m just stating an observation.
It’s scary that even in this day and age, girls are still not taken ‘fully’ seriously as much as men are. I mean I can’t tell you how many times a day that I come across people who sneer when I tell that I work in a financial industry. I mean come on, stop being so medieval about it all!
YES I’m a women and YES I’m damn good at my job.
Underestimate me. That’ll be fun…
