Zoned Out

Hey there Insiders,

I was sitting in a chillout area at work today on my lunch. Sitting there with a few friends, all just chatting away about something or another. I’m one of those people who can blank out in the middle of conversations and not hear a word that’s been said.

It’s weird, I don’t mean to do it however it just happens… I wouldn’t say its down to boredom or because I’m not interested in what’s being said but I simply just drift off. I can be looking straight at someone as they are talking to me and BOOM zoned out. Sometimes I just sit there nodding at them and thinking to myself ‘I have no idea what this person has just said’. – I could be agreeing with the most stupidest stuff just because I’m not listening to what’s being said.

I mean, I’m sure I’m not the only one that drifts off and blanks out what people are saying. – I will hold my hands up and say yes sometimes I’ve done it because I’m genuinely not bothered about what’s been said however 9/10 I’m doing it without realising (until the other person is looking for a response and I have no idea what they said…)

What I find remarkable is that no one even realises that I do this. I think the only person that has been able to catch me out on it (almost every time) is my best friend or my ex. And they have no subtle way to gain my attention, they literally point-blank say ‘You have no idea what I’m saying’ or ‘Did you even hear what I said?’ ‘Am I boring you?’ ‘Your zoned out aren’t you?’ – They do this in front of everyone… pointing out that I’m not paying attention and I know they are only doing it to make a point or have a little banter but I mean, come on I’m not doing it on purpose.

Hmm …. Maybe I am bored of the conversation or disinterested and it’s just my subconscious telling me that as I zone out.

What do you think?

Much Love,

The Insider x
